Students will have the opportunity to show their music talents to their peers on stage during Blue Key Honor Society's 63rd annual Spring Sing competition.
Spring Sing will be hosted at 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 10 in Petree Auditorium in Kirkpatrick Fine Arts Center.
Lauren Gralton, dance performance junior, said Spring Sing is much like Lip Sync.
“The main difference being that the participants actually sing and speak, whereas that’s not allowed in Lip Sync,” Gralton said.
The event is open to any organization, Gralton said.
“All the sororities and fraternities, as well as Black Student Association, Kappa Phi and Delta Alpha Chi are currently signed up,” Gralton said.
The organizations are required to bring in canned food as an entry fee.
“Twenty cans are required from each organization and will be donated to the United Way of Oklahoma City after the event,” Gralton said.
“We’ll be taking a $2 entry fee from the audience that will go along with the canned goods from organizations to the United Way,” said Gralton.
Items recieved and entry fees collected during Spring Sing will be donated to the United Way.
There will be 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place awards to organizations participating in Spring Sing, in addition to the People’s Choice Award.
“The People’s Choice Award will be decided by the Blue Key Society, as stated in the official rules for the event,” Gralton said.
The men of Delta Alpha Chi were awarded the People’s Choice Award in 2009. In 2009 Delta Alpha Chi also took home the first place title. Kappa Sigma fraternity took home the second place title, while Gamma Phi Beta took home the third place title.
Taitum Trees, acting freshman, said she is looking forward to Spring Sing.
“This is my first Spring Sing and I'm really excited about it, it’s going to be a great way to bond with my Alpha Phi sisters and have great school spirit,” Trees said.
Steven Godwin, religion sophomore, said he will not be performing in Spring Sing with his Kappa Sigma brothers. He will be in the audience.
“I’m excited to go watch all the students display their amazing talents,” Godwin said.
Jason Schilder, vocal performance freshman, said he is looking forward to the experience.
“It’ll be fun to perform with my Lambda Chi brothers and hang out with them,” Schilder said.
