Have you ever been so sick that you literally don’t move for the whole day?
That was me about two weeks ago. I didn’t move off my couch unless I was going to the bathroom. I didn’t go to class, I didn’t even eat.
Finally after spending most of the day in a medicated haze, I decided to watch some OCU basketball. I didn’t feel well enough to go all the way to the Freede Center. So I decided to watch the live video from OCUsports.com.
I clicked the link, which took me to “OCU Stars All-Access” I signed in with my user info, and clicked the game. Then a little blue window popped up reading: “You don’t have any subscriptions please click the game you want.”
I clicked the game in this new box and what came up next bothered me. It wanted a credit card number. Not a big problem, I looked to see how much it was going to cost. $6.99; more than I was willing to pay at the time. No offense to basketball, it’s just not my No. 1 choice for sports. And it was already to the second half of the last game.
I’ve paid more to go to other games. Last year I went to the men’s wrestling championships for about $10. This season went to three away games for soccer that was about $15. Maybe it was the all the cough syrup that made me cranky.
To avoid paying, I decided to listen to the free audio.
I caught it during halftime meaning I got to hear commercials at ear-splitting levels. When the game re-started I could barely hear Andrew Himes, mass communications senior, and couldn’t even tell who the other person was.
So after the second sports fail of the evening I decided sports were too hard to follow on high doses of cough syrup and watched “Blue’s Clues” for several hours.
Next time I want to watch sports without having to put on real clothes, I’ll pay up.
