“The Book of Eli”, starring Denzel Washington, tells the story of one man’s devotion in a post-apocalyptic world.
The movie follows the character of Eli, played by Denzel Washington, as he heads west with a little more than he can carry. His journey brings him across perils that are caused by groups of people wandering the wastes known as "raiders."
The movie follows a religious motive and touches the popular topics of rebirth and following by faith.
Much of the movie features bland colors and suggests characters have accepted shallow values that rule the new world. Much of the moral values we honor today, such as equal opportunity and punishment for crimes, vanished with a disaster that resulted in the destruction of the old world. It is not just the survival of the fittest, but the survival of the most corrupt.
The movie entertains, teaches and shares a perspective on the Christian Bible in a way which applies to a pop-culture idea of living. This is definitely a movie for the thrill-seeking action fan and the insightful viewer who is looking for more than a face-value movie. I highly recommend people should see this film before it leaves theaters.
