Student found with illegal substances in residence hall

A Banning Hall resident assistant found a female student in possession of illegal substances Wednesday, April 21. According to a police report, the student was found with 6.1 grams of marijuana, one glass pipe and 2 bottles of alcohol. John Miller, OCU Police Department officer, was dispatched to Banning Hall in response to complaints about the odor of marijuana smoke in the residence hall. Full story

Students will have a slimmer selection of parking spots. The Goldbug Parking lot north of Dulaney-Browne Library will be closed all day Tuesday, April 13. The polls are closed. John Riesenberg, economics junior, beat Michael Roselle, marketing junior, for Student Government Association president elect 63 percent to 37 percent Tuesday. Fees, tuition to increase 5 percent

Tuition is not the only fee increasing by 5 percent next academic year. The Student Service Fee will increase by the same amount. The increases are neces­sary to offset a universitywide budget deficit resulting from a decrease in enrollment. The student fee will go from $18 to $21. Full story

Student officials are urging administrators to allow some students to live off campus. The Student Government Association passed a resolution March 9 promoting modification of the university’s housing policy. Plans are underway for a new fraternity on campus. The expansion committee recently approved the decision to install a new chapter of Phi Gamma Delta (FIJI) on campus. The committee consists of four administrators and four students. Talks of budget changes are in session as officials discuss ways to offset to a $5.9 million deficit. The deficit is due to a decrease in enrollment, Brian Holland, chief financial officer, said. From February 2009 to February 2010, there was a 2.8 percent decrease in students. Full story

More than fish bowls could be allowed in university-related apartments as early as this summer. Student Government Association leaders are discussing a resolution calling for a change in the university’s pet policy. The resolution, if passed by senators and signed by SGA President Camal Pennington, would be used to encourage officials to allow a wider array of pets in University Manor and Cokesbury Court Apartments. Campus construction limits parking options

Parking has been a concern for many students since the construction for the Kramer School of Nursing expansion began early last month.

Officials broke ground in Oc¬tober on a 52,000-square-foot ex¬pansion to the nursing school. For many commuters, the resulting construction has led to difficulties finding parking spots.

The situation has been frus¬trating for many students, espe¬cially those who don't live at OCU, said Steven Godwin, religion sophomore.

Students to benefit if law school completes move

Future science and theology students will benefit if administrators are successful in moving the law school downtown.

Officials announced in December plans to relocate the school to the Fred Jones Building, 900 W. Main.

The plan was contingent upon Oklahoma City voters passing MAPS 3, a one-cent sales tax extension.

Cokesbury Court residents suffer armed robbery

Officials are prompting students to take safety precautions after several incidents involving burglary and vandalism were reported on campus.

Two residents of Cokesbury Court Apartments were victims of an armed robbery Wednesday, Jan. 20.

Two ELS students set up a meeting with an individual selling a cell phone on Craigslist.com. The two victims agreed via phone to do the business transaction and agreed to meet at the Cokesbury parking lot, according to police reports.
