Senators pass resolution to challenge age requirements for living off campus

Student officials are urging administrators to allow some students to live off campus. The Student Government Association passed a resolution March 9 promoting modification of the university’s housing policy. The change would allow students under the age of 21 to live off campus with parental consent. Full story

Cramming, stressing, and panicking can seem unavoidable during midterm week. Some students have created their own ways to stay calm and focused during exam week. In preparation for midterm exams, seniors share their wisdom with underclassmen. Fraternity selected for installation

Plans are underway for a new fraternity on campus. The expansion committee recently approved the decision to install a new chapter of Phi Gamma Delta (FIJI) on campus. The committee consists of four administrators and four students. FIJI was selected by officials because it’s the best fit for stu­dents and will offer them what they need, said Corey Hill, Inter­fraternity Council adviser. Full story

Midnight Breakfast returns to campus as students prepare for midterms. The Student Activities Council is hosting the event at 11 p.m. Tuesday, March 2 in the caf in Tom and Brenda McDaniel University Center. Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of a busy season in the life of the Christian based religions and follows Mardi Gras or “Fat Tuesday.” Ash Wednesday is celebrated to signify an inner repentance among Christians. Harry Potter Alliance chapter hosts charity ball

A local Harry Potter Alliance chapter will host its second annual fundraising ball at Oklahoma City University. The Oklahoma Wizards League (OWL) will present Carousing with Cupid, a Valentine’s-themed ball sprinkled with elements of the popular book series that will raise money for the Harry Potter Alliance, a non-profit organization, and STAND, the student-led division of the Genocide Intervention Network. The ball will be hosted in the Great Hall in Tom and Brenda McDaniel University Center. Full story

Singer/songwriter featured on MTV shows to kick-off series

Concerts by outside performing artists may not be an uncommon event on campus starting this spring. Officials are hosting a concert free for students at 8 p.m. today in the Burg Theater in Kirkpatrick Fine Arts Center. Steve Means, a 23 year-old acoustic pop /soul singer/songwriter from Nashville, will perform at the event. Full story

Student leaders consider pet policy

More than fish bowls could be allowed in university-related apartments as early as this summer. Student Government Association leaders are discussing a resolution calling for a change in the university’s pet policy. The resolution, if passed by senators and signed by SGA President Camal Pennington, would be used to encourage officials to allow a wider array of pets in University Manor and Cokesbury Court Apartments.
